Asking questions is important! 6/17/14

Today was a stressful day that I started by mopping up the shop. Next Samuel let me do my own oil change on a Subaru and I thought I could do it but I got confused and didn't want to ask any questions because I thought I could do it and ended up messing up. Instead of draining the oil I ended up draining the transmission fluid. I realized that I should have ask Samuel when I was confused instead of just assuming. I also realized that Subarus are confusing cars because soon after I messed up my mentor Samuel also messed up by putting engine oil in the transmission and then had to drain it all out and replace it with transmission fluid which took all day.

Time will tell 6/16/14

Today was more of a learning day then anything. Although I still performed a oil change and tire rotation I had to pull nails out of tires. Pulling the nails out was very time consuming but it taught me that to do things right it takes time. Towards the end of my day I helped Samuel clean and organize the equipment we used for that day.

20 hours in 6/13/14

I had a very busy day today since I changed oil and oil filters on a lot of cars today and learned how to lubricate a chassis on certain cars. On one car today I discovered a oil leak coming from a crack on the oil tank and informed Samuel about it. To end the day I observed Samuel measure the drums rotors and brake pads on a fiat.

All together 6/12/14

Today at the shop I started off by helping clean up then taking the tires and drums off a van. I then got to change the oil and oil filter on my own. The van I was working on needed new tires so Samuel ordered them and as we where waiting on the tires we recharged the battery on the car. Samuel then showed me how to refinish the rotors and realign the drums. After we got the new tires put on the car I went with Samuel to take it on a test drive to check and see if anything else was wrong.

Hard work 6/11/14

Today was a tough day at the shop since I did a little more of physical work. Today Samuel how to take off and put back on tires and the rule of having to screw the bolts back on in a star formation since it helps the tire be more secure. I also did tire air pressure checks on a number of cars as Samuel checked the breaks and changed oil. As Samuel was finishing up cars he also let me drive cars back into the parking lot outside the shop.

Observating 6/10/14

Today was my second day at Way Side and I learned a lot as I observed Samuel throughout the day. First Samuel had to get broken bolts off a engine and he showed me how to use the welding machine. Today was a very busy day for Samuel and he did a number of oil changes and I helped by looking up the different oil filters learning how to use the textbook. I ended my day helping Samuel install a manifold of a Chevrolet truck on both sides.

First day on the job 06/09/14

Today was my first day working at Wayside garage along Samuel's side. Although a lot of my day was mostly observing Samuel I did learn quite a few things today at the shop. We started the day off looking over a Dodge Ram 3500 Super Duty truck with a v8 engine. The owner said the AC wasn't working and it was also due for an oil change. Samuel taught me how to change the oil and also how to look up certain oil filters for different cars. He also taught me how to check the front and rear differential fluid and how to check the tire pressure.  I then observed Samuel as he was checking to see what was wrong with the AC and watched him fix the problem in a series of steps.
